Jaza’s Journey: Building a New Life in London

Jaza’s Journey: Building a New Life in London

Meet Jaza , a resilient 46-year-old from Iraq. When Jaza joined our programme on 25th September 2023, he was an asylum seeker living at The Airlink Hotel, facing significant challenges with finance, language, and immigration. Despite these hurdles, Jaza’s determination and incredible talent shone through.

Jaza, who speaks Kurdish, arrived with a wealth of skills. He’s a true ‘handyman,’ incredibly adept with his hands, capable of tackling a wide range of practical tasks. His work history includes roles as a butcher assistant, construction labourer, handyman, and even experience in fast-food restaurants. However, to truly thrive in his new environment, Jaza needed support, especially with English language proficiency.

Our team at Action West London worked closely with Jaza to address his immediate needs and help him build a foundation for the future. We assisted him in applying for ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) and electrical college courses, recognising his practical skills and potential. We also helped him create a CV, supported his job search efforts, and navigated the complexities of updating his address with Migrant Help to secure his Biometric Residence Permit and communicate with the Home Office.

Jaza quickly embraced the learning opportunities, successfully completing his ESOL Entry Level 1 course with Action West London. His eagerness to work at any time, coupled with his hands-on abilities, makes him a valuable asset to any team.
