Client Journey – Rachel

Rachel* is a refugee from Eritrea, she arrived in London with no work experience and limited proficiency in English. Her primary goal was to develop and enhance her employment skills to secure sustainable employment. She sought the assistance of Action West London(AWL) in order to navigate the complexities of job searching, develop a CV, and gain the confidence needed for successful employment.  With the guidance and support of her AWL advisor, Rachel took the initial steps of attending employability workshops and then worked collaboratively her advisor to craft her first CV.   Despite the absence of formal work experience, our advisor work with her to focus on emphasising her skills and her potential.

Recognising Rachels interest in retail and customer service, our advisor  suggested that Rachel explored volunteering opportunities in charity shops, embracing this recommendation she used the experience to improve her communication skills and enrich her CV.

Together, Rachel and our advisor navigated the application process, leading to a successful interview and the acquisition of a volunteering position. This achievement marked a turning point, boosting Rachels confidence in subsequent job applications and interviews.

Continuing the journey, Rachel  and her AWL advisor targeted job applications at renowned establishments.  Breaking down the perceived complexity of the process and with consistent guidance and support.   Rachels confidence grew and she was able to transform the daunting job application process into a manageable and approachable task.

 

Empowered by her progress, Rachel is now ready to transition to applying for paid jobs. The one-on-one interventions with her employment advisor significantly helped he to increase her self-confidence as well as attending employability workshops, crafting a professional CV, and gaining work experience through volunteering have been instrumental in preparing Rachel for her employment journey.
