Client Journey – Luke

*Luke faced significant challenges in finding employment after his last job in February 2024. His past criminal convictions often resulted in job offers being withdrawn after background checks, leading to feelings of hopelessness and resignation. Despite his desire to leave his past behind, he struggled to find stable work.

A referral from a family friend, who had successfully found employment through a previous Action West London project, connected Luke with our UKSPF programme. Our Advisor facilitated a group meeting with Luke and his close friends to discuss his career goals and explore how the programme could help him find and maintain employment.

Luke was open and honest about his criminal history, and we reassured him that our employer partners are willing to consider suitable candidates regardless of their past. We explored potential career paths, focusing on long-term, well-paying options. Construction and warehouse work were identified as promising avenues. To minimise potential risks associated with his past, we focused on job opportunities in areas less likely to trigger past associations.

Our advisor worked with Luke to create a dynamic CV and discussed the importance of regularly updating it. Our advisor also provided comprehensive support throughout the job search process, including interview preparation, travel guidance, and follow-up sessions with Luke.

As a result of the UKSPF programme, Luke has now successfully secured a position as a Scaffolding Labourer with a reputable national employer, a role that offers above-London-Living-Wage pay and a promising career path. This achievement has boosted Luke’s confidence and provided him with a sense of pride and accomplishment. He is extremely grateful for the support provided by the UKSPF programme and now has a stable income and a clear path towards a successful future, along with the ongoing support of our team to ensure his continued success.

Well done Luke
