Client Journey – Adam*
Action West London, in partnership with the Ministry of Justice, is dedicated to supporting 18–24-year-olds from ethnic minority backgrounds in Ealing, Hounslow, Harrow, Barnet, Brent, and Hillingdon who are currently on probation.
It was through this specialist programme that Adam , an 18-year-old from Isleworth, was referred to us by his Probation Service Officer in Hounslow. When Adam joined us, he had been unemployed for three months and was not yet claiming Universal Credit, leaving him without a steady income or a clear path forward.
Adam was signposted to our Acton-based project because he was keen to improve his prospects and find a role with clear progression. However, he faced several immediate barriers. He needed practical help to apply for Universal Credit, create his first professional CV, and build the confidence required for job interviews. Despite these challenges, Adam was highly motivated to learn new skills and find work that would provide long-term security.
Through regular one-to-one sessions, Adam worked closely with his Advisor to identify his strengths, such as his communication and teamwork skills. Our team provided structured support with CV development and interview preparation, helping him learn how to present his background positively to employers. To ensure he was ready for the workplace, Adam also attended and successfully completed Level 1 Employability training and a CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) training course.
The impact of this support was immediate. Adam became more proactive in his job search and much more confident in his abilities. This progress significantly improved his wellbeing, giving him a renewed sense of purpose. He no longer felt he was facing his challenges alone.
Reflecting on his time with the programme, Adam said:
“I feel more confident now that I am receiving help. I feel at home here, like I am surrounded by friends. I feel less alone and truly supported. I am thankful to Action West London for the work they did to help me, and I hope I can only get better as time goes by.”
Having successfully moved into accredited training, Adam is now focused on securing a stable role where he can continue to develop. His journey shows how the right blend of practical training and emotional support can help a young person move from uncertainty toward financial security and a bright career.
Well done, Adam!
