In November 2025, Action West London launched Movement on the Mount with a clear, localised mission: to break down the barriers that keep women and girls out of structured physical activity. Backed by vital funding from Sport England, the programme set out to offer a completely free, varied, and inclusive space for fitness right here in Acton.

Crucial to this mission is our delivery partner, Ealing Fit Club. As local health and fitness experts, their certified instructors have been on the ground with us since day one, bringing the technical knowledge, high energy, and supportive coaching necessary to make these sessions both safe and accessible for everyone.

Today, we are proud to share our mid-term impact report. While our original target was to reach 80 women over a full 12-month period, the community response has been overwhelming. In just six months, 95 participants have joined the movement, officially exceeding our initial goal ahead of schedule.

A Multigenerational, Inclusive Space

The data from our first six months shows that Movement on the Mount is serving a truly broad cross-section of Acton’s diverse community.

  • Breaking the Inactivity Cycle: Prior to joining, 37.6% of our participants reported that they did not currently exercise, whilst another 37.6% were limited to walking 1 to 3 times a week. Furthermore, 52.3% described their baseline fitness levels as “lightly active” and 14.8% as “sedentary”.

  • True Multigenerational Engagement: Our age profile spans generations. A substantial 38.3% of attendees are aged 65 or over, largely anchoring our specialised low-impact strength and mobility sessions. We also see robust, consistent engagement from women in the 35–44 (23.4%) and 45–54 (14.9%) age brackets.

  • Supporting All Backgrounds: From retirees (37.2%) and part-time workers (16%) to those who are currently unemployed (14.9%), unpaid carers (8.5%), and mothers on maternity leave (2.1%), the programme is successfully fitting into the complex schedules of local women.

By providing a rotating roster of disciplines—including Older Adults Fitness, Dance Fitness, Street Dance, Relax and Stretch, and HIIT—we ensure that every participant finds a movement style that matches their pace and lifestyle.

Real Impact: What Our Participants Say

The quantitative growth is exciting, but the qualitative feedback highlights the holistic value of the programme. The data shows that 84% of participants have experienced increased physical fitness, 68% feel more connected to other locals, and 57% report improved mental health.

Our attendees have shared how these sessions have helped them navigate major life transitions, illness recovery, and isolation:

“The most significant benefit has been reconnecting with my body and rebuilding my confidence. After my hysterectomy, I no longer felt at ease in my own body. Movement on the Mount encouraged me to begin moving again at my own pace. I gradually felt stronger and more accepting of myself.”

“I enjoy the classes and it has got me back into exercise after an operation… The team is caring and makes the classes fun. I will continue to attend.”

“Being part of a supportive group of women, where we encourage and understand one another, has made a lasting difference to my overall well-being.”
