Dear Partners, Valued Clients, and Dedicated Staff,
As the year draws to a close, I am compelled to reach out and share a few thoughts as we reflect on the journey we’ve undertaken together. This year marked a significant milestone for me personally and professionally, as it was my inaugural year as CEO of AWL. It has been a period of both challenge and triumph, underscoring our resilience and commitment to our core mission.
The unexpected loss of ESF funding posed a considerable challenge for our organization. However, in the face of adversity, we not only persevered but also achieved remarkable successes.
Our engagement with over 200 unemployed individuals across six boroughs in West London is a testament to our unwavering dedication to our cause. More notably, our efforts have culminated in the successful transition of nearly 100 individuals into meaningful employment. This accomplishment is a beacon of hope and an example of our potential to effect change, even in trying times.
I extend my profound gratitude to our Board of Trustees for their strategic oversight and enduring support. To our chair, Tony Coyne, your leadership and wisdom have been invaluable assets to AWL. Our accomplishments this year are, in many ways, a reflection of your steadfast guidance. A big welcome to 3 new trustees this year Sorca, Mehdee and Rev Fernandes.
A special acknowledgement is due to SEGRO for their ongoing community investment in AWL. Your support has been a cornerstone of our efforts and has greatly amplified our impact in the communities we serve.
As we look ahead, I am filled with a sense of optimism. Despite the challenges and the inevitable contraction, we faced, we have established a solid foundation from which we can grow and expand our reach. The year 2024 holds immense potential for AWL, and I am excited to embark on this journey of growth and development.
The transformative impact of our work – moving individuals from unemployment to sustainable employment – cannot be overstated. In a society where inequality persists, the role we play is increasingly vital. We stand not just as an organization but as a catalyst for change, dedicated to alleviating poverty and reducing inequality.
Our mission is more pertinent than ever, and our resolve to continue this work is unwavering. As we celebrate this festive season, let us remember the profound impact of our collective efforts and the lives we have touched and transformed.
Thank you for your continued support, collaboration, and belief in our mission. I wish you all a peaceful, happy holiday season and a prosperous New Year. Together, we will continue to make a difference in the lives of many.
Gary Buckley CEO, AWL
