Action West London’s staff and board members would like to thank John Lewis & Partners for hosting such a fantastic day at the annual John Lewis & Partners Charity fundraising day.

The John Lewis Partnership recently opened its new shop at White City, Westfield and they chose Action West London as the local charity to share in funds raised at the John Lewis Annual Golf Fundraising day.An amazing £250,000 was raised which was split between the John Lewis Foundation charity and Action West London.

Dr John Blackmore, Chief Executive of Action West London said:

We are delighted to have been selected as the charity to benefit from the John Lewis & Partners charity Golf Day. It was a great event for everyone working closely together on the day. The money donated to us is badly needed and will enable Action West London to deliver its Mission of ‘changing lives through Employment, Education and Enterprise’ to many more disadvantaged young people and adults in West London.

The day went off without a hitch. The weather was glorious and as expected John Lewis went all out, our expectations were exceeded! It was a real team event, there were Segway’s, archery and even a golf simulator which some of our staff had a crack at.

We met some fantastic people and a few celebrities too! Throughout the day we sold raffle tickets to generate funds towards the total amount. The raffle included some pretty appealing prizes, a holiday to Mexico, a designer handbag, washing machine, a £1,000 high tech barbecue and Action West London’s very own business administrator Imogen won a framed and signed England cricket team photo.

Paula Nickolds, Managing Director, of John Lewis & Partners presented the donation to Chief Executive John Blackmore and she thanked suppliers who participated. Paula said ‘our values remain constant, including our unwavering commitment to supporting the communities in which we operate. Today’s event is just one example of how we do this, and the monies raised will be split between Action West London and the John Lewis Foundation –both organisations that focus on supporting skill development and enterprise in areas surrounding our new White City store and broader global operations, respectively’.

On behalf of everyone from Action West London, We really would like to say one final thank you. Rod Cahill, Chair of Action West London:

Action West London does incredibly important work in a tough financial climate supporting disadvantaged individuals and communities. We are therefore immensely grateful to John Lewis & Partners for supporting our work through their Charity Golf Day. Every penny donated will be used to make a difference to peoples’ lives, whether through helping a young person get back into education or employment, or helping an older person get back into a job or a local person set up as self- employed as a stallholder at Acton Market…
