Action West London is a key partner in the Big Lottery BBO/ESF funded project led by ELATT and last week we helped organise a 1-year Celebration event for the Project. The event was hosted in Ealing Town Hall where all key partners and some learners attended.
The Working West London project started in April 2017 and runs through to 2019. Action West London is a key partner in helping to deliver the project to help refugees gain employment and to build their careers. The project aims to support refugees groups into meaningful and sustainable employment, following a whole-person approach to personal and skills development; recognising existing skills and experience so that people can return to work in jobs and professions that they had previously trained in, thus supporting job sustainability.
Anthony Harmer, CEO of ELATT took the floor and kicked the event off with an introduction of all the key partners. Antony then gave a brilliant presentation on the progress and achievements of Working West London. In the first year, over 200 refugees enrolled with 90 having completed the full programme. Anthony’s presentation was followed by a speech from Imman Laksari-Adams. Imman, The Senior Policy Advisor of the Skills Team at GLA shared potential GLA plans to secure more funding through the mayor.
Action West London’s very own business training tutor Glenda Shawley ran a 45 minutes workshop ‘An Introduction to Setting up your Own Business.’ The workshop was delivered to 12 people and was well received. Two of the participants signed up to our FREE business training workshops which are funded by NatWest Skills and Opportunities.
During the event, our WWL (Working West London) learners Areeg and Elgzoli gave a lovely speech about the support that they have received from us at Action West London.
Areeg and Elgzoli said they were grateful for the support they received from staff at Action West London. Our staff members have helped them both to expand their English language skills and helped them to take the steps necessary to enrol on an ESOL course at West London College.
