Action West London was fortunate enough to be one of seven London-based not-for-profit organisations to benefit from a share of £1m from NatWest’s latest round of its Skills and Opportunities Fund. The NatWest Skills & Opportunities Fund was set up in 2015 to create opportunities for people in disadvantaged communities to gain qualifications, find work or start a business.
Action West London has used the funding to offer people from disadvantaged communities the chance to develop their entrepreneurial interest with the potential to change their lives. We help people learn to set up a business as a Market trader at our Acton Market or help them develop any other business idea they wish to pursue.
We run FREE weekly start-up business workshops where participants have access to the skills and opportunities that they need to start or develop a new business.
We provide flexible training sessions with most sessions running in the morning but in addition, on Friday, October 12th and Saturday 13th, we are running a two-day intensive to cover all of the topics in 36 hours. This will suit those of you who struggle to get regular time off work to attend our morning sessions. There will also be two lunch and learn sessions in October to help you implement some of the things you need to do to get up and running. We also provide online training, webinars, advice and support.
If you are interested in taking part in our FREE workshops you can call us on 020 8993 9605. To find out more information about each session and what to expect, visit our current timetable.
The event so far has been a big hit with some participants already trading in Acton Market.
Dime started trading at Acton Market in 2018, after completing our training sessions. Market Trading is Dime’s first business after working as a Chef in the Hospitality industry. Since beginning his new business, Dime has quickly become a strong trader, with great customer service and a passion for cooking healthy and delicious food for the local community.
I received training on self-employment from the Action West London/NatWest skills and opportunities project. This is very important for me, and I am very happy. It has changed my life so much.
We’ve also received some great feedback from our workshops, here are just a few quotes from some of the participants.

It was brilliant. Glenda she is superb in what she is doing. Pleasant and willing to support. Very well done.
The useful things I have learned is taxation, cash flow, budget planning, breaking even and cost analysis. Thank you.
Glenda has been great to be trained by. She was motivational and shared her experience. It has been a really beneficial course which I would highly recommend to others.
